ABOUT THIS SITE

This site is intended as a compendium of my research, educational, and other activities that pertain to modeling biomolecular systems of medical relevance.  Although the first person is mostly used in the narratives, I would like to emphasize that the projects and accomplishments described here would not have been realized without the contributions of mentors, students, colleagues, and other collaborators.  Please feel free to contact me if you have questions, comments or suggestions.

MODELING BIOMEDICAL SYSTEMS

As used in this website, Biomedical Systems refer to networks of molecular interactions that determine or influence the physiology of cells, tissues, organs, and ultimately the health of the organism.  It is my hope that by integrating and analyzing these complex networks we could begin to understand the normal operational states of an individual and the perturbations that lead to abnormal or diseased conditions.  The modeling of these biomedical systems require two major tasks, namely,

(1) the integration of massive amounts of data on genetic and biochemical interactions in cells and organisms, and

(2) the development of computational and mathematical tools for analyzing these data for the purpose of creating dynamical models that allow us to simulate a biological system in silico.

I think the current Omics revolution will soon be followed by breakthroughs in the way we understand how life emerges from these very complex molecular networks. The
research and educational sections are recommended starting points for exploring this website.
